Decorator Telephones 1970's - 1980's:
The Telecom Decorator series of telephones was a popular line of telephones in New Zealand during the 1980s. These phones were provided by the New Zealand Post Office, which was responsible for the country's telecommunications at the time. The Decorator series was known for its sleek and modern design, offering a range of styles and colors to suit different tastes and interior decor.
The series featured a variety of models, including desk phones, wall phones, and even cordless phones. The desk phones were typically the most common and came in different shapes, such as rectangular or oval bases. They were available in various colors like black, white, beige, and grey, with a smooth plastic body and a prominent keypad on the front. The design was simple and functional, fitting well into both residential and business environments.
The wall phones in the Decorator series were designed to be mounted on the wall, featuring a smaller form factor compared to the desk phones. They often had a streamlined appearance with a slim profile and a wall bracket for easy installation. The cordless phones in the series provided the convenience of mobility within a certain range, allowing users to move around while talking on the phone.
One notable feature of the Telecom Decorator series was their distinctive ringtone. The phones had a unique chime-like ring that became iconic and instantly recognizable in New Zealand during that era. The sound of the phone ringing often evokes nostalgia for many people who grew up during that time.
Overall, the Telecom Decorator series of telephones played a significant role in the telecommunications landscape of New Zealand in the 1980s. They offered a stylish and functional option for both residential and business users, and their design and ringtone have left a lasting impression on the collective memory of New Zealanders.
